Donor Testing Lab

The Donor Testing Lab (DTL) at Stanford Blood Center performs all required testing for blood products that will be used for transfusion. Testing is performed each time a donor donates a unit of blood. If any test is reactive or positive, it is sent for further testing to verify the test results.
In addition, the DTL serves as the West Coast testing lab for the National Blood Testing Cooperative, a group of almost 20 blood centers who have joined together to offer high quality, low cost testing services throughout the United States. As part of NBTC, the Donor Testing Lab is able to provide blood donor screening and specialty testing services to independent blood centers and hospital systems.
Flow Cytometry Lab

Flow cytometry research is almost always unique to each lab and investigator, so constant guidance in methodology setup is required, such as changes in laser configuration and wavelength needed. We provide guidance and training to staff, students, post docs, and scientists in setting up research methodology, antibody choices/combination and better use of flow cytometry instrumentation.
The flow cytometry laboratory provides testing for daily quality control run of blood products. Immunophenotyping assay is also provided in patients for clinical research.
HLA Lab

The Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory (HLA Lab) provides testing to support hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplantations by performing HLA genotyping in donors and recipients to assess the closeness of match and identify mismatches; chimerism testing to evaluate for post-transplant engraftment; HLA antibody testing to identify anti-HLA antibodies; and flow crossmatches to assess donor-recipient compatibility. In addition, the HLA Lab provides testing for transfusion medicine, as well as disease association and pharmacogenetics analysis.
The HLA Lab offers a full range of testing services to support hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplantations, transfusion medicine (blood product testing) and HLA-related disease association/pharmacogenetics analysis. We service Stanford Health Care, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and other transplant centers and hospitals in the Bay Area and beyond.
As part of Stanford Blood Center (SBC), the HLA Lab is accredited by ASHI, certified by CLIA, and licensed by the State of California for high-complexity testing.
